What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Don't wait and hope it gets better. These conditions require prompt professional care to relieve pain, prevent infection, and save your tooth.
🦷

Severe Toothache

Persistent or throbbing tooth pain may indicate deep decay, abscess, or a cracked tooth. Untreated infections can spread rapidly.
💥

Broken or Chipped Tooth

Trauma, biting hard food, or sports injuries can fracture teeth. Even small chips can expose sensitive nerve endings.
😮

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out (avulsed) tooth is a true dental emergency. Time is critical — the best chance of saving it is within 30–60 minutes.
👑

Lost or Broken Crown

A missing crown exposes the underlying tooth to bacteria, pressure, and sensitivity. It needs to be recemented or replaced promptly.
🔩

Lost Tooth Filling

When a filling falls out, the exposed cavity can cause intense sensitivity and allow bacteria to re-enter the tooth structure.
🌉

Broken Dental Bridge

A broken bridge affects your bite, speech, and nearby teeth. It should be repaired quickly to prevent shifting of adjacent teeth.
🔴

Gum Abscess or Swelling

A gum abscess is an infection that can spread to the jaw, neck, or bloodstream if left untreated. It requires urgent care.
🩸

Gum Soreness or Bleeding

Persistent gum bleeding or severe soreness can indicate advanced gum disease or trauma that requires professional evaluation.
🩸

Object Stuck Between Teeth

Objects lodged between teeth can cause pain, pressure, and gum tissue damage if not removed properly.
⚠️

Emergency Tooth Extraction

Sometimes a severely damaged or infected tooth must be extracted immediately to relieve pain and prevent the spread of infection.
🌡️

Dental Abscess / Infection

An untreated abscess is a potentially life-threatening infection. Signs include fever, swelling, and difficulty swallowing or breathing.
😬

Loose or Painful Tooth

Adult teeth should never be loose. This can indicate advanced periodontal disease or trauma requiring immediate assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency Dental Care — Answers You Need Right Now

We know you have questions. Here are the ones we hear most often during emergencies.
Does Dublin Metro Dental accept walk-in dental emergencies?
We strongly recommend calling ahead at (614) 766-5600 so we can prepare for your arrival and minimize your wait time. While we do accommodate urgent situations, a quick phone call ensures we have the right team and resources ready for you.
Pick up the tooth by the crown (the white part), not the root. Gently rinse it without scrubbing. If possible, reinsert it into the socket and bite down gently on gauze. If you can’t reinsert it, place it in a container of milk or saliva. Call us immediately — reimplantation is most successful within 30–60 minutes of the injury.

Yes. We accept most major dental insurance plans and are happy to verify your coverage when you call. For patients without insurance, we offer flexible financing options including CareCredit, so cost is never a barrier to getting the care you need.

If your tooth pain is severe, has lasted more than 1–2 days, is accompanied by swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing, it is a dental emergency. Even moderate pain that disrupts sleep or eating should be evaluated promptly. When in doubt, call us — we’ll help you assess the urgency over the phone.

Absolutely. Dublin Metro Dental welcomes new emergency patients. We will collect brief information over the phone to speed up your intake process and get you seen as quickly as possible upon arrival.

We are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. For after-hours emergencies, call (614) 766-5600 and a friendly team member will help schedule the earliest available appointment and guide you with first-aid advice until you can be seen.
